So new year means fresh news! I hope everybody finished off last year with one last huge hurrah.

Last year was an interesting year for us, with some of our best releases to date. As a quick update of things to come, please check out Cell Block 5 and Confront whose touring schedule right now is keeping both coasts covered. Cell Block 5 will also be performing at The Punk Rock Holocaust with The Angry Samoans at the end of the month. No more teasers! Lude Boy Records Volume 2 will be hitting stores very soon. Expect a release date by the end of January. So please keep checking back and look for some dynamic additions to the site. Thanks for your support in 2007 and here's to a fan-fucking-tastic new year.

News // 08.16.07

2007 has shaped up to be a year with its fair share of ups and downs. We are happy to report that things are moving up and forward at this point for Lude Boy Records. Although still in the works without a confirmed release date, Lude Boy Volume 2 is starting to enter its final stages.

As more and more bands expressed an interest in being part of this project we decided to allow it to evolve to the mind blowingly good compilation that is now going through its final tweaks. So as to make sure that it is nothing less than perfect we thank you in advance for your patience. In more current news, Cell Block 5 is on the road spreading the word of their soon to be released record. Look for a Christmas release and expect to have your world rocked (look out Bret Michaels). Not to ruin your holiday surprise just yet, keep checking in for info on all of the guests appearing on this record.
Next month they will be on tour up and down the West Coast with the legendary Vibrators, not to mention taking a days break to open up for Corey Feldmans current band. Finally, a huge congratulation's goes out to Daveo from Cell Block 5 for being a brand spanking new DAD as of this past weekend. We think that's just awesome!

We would like to take a moment and sincerely address the fans of all the bands that we have been fortunate enough to work with up to this point. We have been made aware of issues surrounding the ordering of certain items from our online store, specifically the Lenny and the Piss Poor Boys album and apparel.

For those that have placed more recent orders you will notice that the shipping times have been in accordance with what is stated on the website. However, earlier this year we were happily inundated with orders for the Lenny and the Piss Poor Boys album.
Online sales exceeded everyone's expectations and this led to a delay in some orders. In addition, we've found PayPal to be limiting in the tracking of orders. We thank everyone for their patience during that time and please do not hesitate to give us feedback and let us know of any ordering issues. We were very happy to work with all of you in resolving these issues and our bands look forward to sharing many more amazing records with you.

Speaking of lineup changes, we would also love to welcome A.J. to the Lude Boy family. A.J. has now officially joined The Booze Hounds as their official drum destroyer.

It is with much sadness that we must let you know that Jon Johnson of Lenny and the Piss Poor Boys passed away in the early morning of January 17th. Our love for this band is beyond words and for those that knew Jon you know that not only did the music world lose an amazing musician, but a wonderful human being. It appears he died of complications from a sudden seizure. He probably was unconscious before he even knew what was going on, and passed away quickly without suffering. Below is an eloquent obituary written by Michael Brodeur of The Noise.
Several ends of the Boston rock scene are smarting from the tragic and unexpected loss of Jon Erik Johnson last week. “It appears now that he’d been the heart of a whole corner of the Boston scene, as well as a true gentleman—not typical of this time and place,” says producer Scott Dakota (Valhalla Kittens, The Moors) of his brother, whom he discovered deceased in his Wollaston apartment, having suffered a grand mal epileptic seizure. “Amazing, really, that one could be all that he was.”
Certainly, the perspective exclusively offered by retrospect reveals how Johnson figured into the music community in more ways than one could count: as the imposing, frenzied and oh-so-tight upright bassist for local countrified-punk favorites Lenny and Piss Poor Boys; as the de facto current events feed and chaperone for the relentless virtual kerfuffle of thenoiseboard.com; as an award-winning country music writer; and as a genre-blind collaborator with everyone from the Hellbillies and the Bourbonaires to GG Allin and Rex Trailer—not to mention his own family.
Growing up, one of Johnson’s grandmothers was an Appalachian imagesinger and guitar player (“We were soaked in that,” Dakota says); the other was a prodigious organist. And Johnson, Dakota and their father, Arnie, played a blend of gospel and Americana at church services as The Johnson Boys.
“The quality of his life was immense,” says Dakota. “He was genuinely religious in a way that was spiritual but not dogmatic; he was politically conservative (libertarian—principled version, not oil-pig version), but open to others’ views; fantastically musically talented but humble; loving to his family and friends; a scholar and historian; an accomplished writer; wild and witty; an astounding conversationalist and a joy to be around, sought out by his many friends and acquaintances. And wow, did he rock. What a player.”
Funeral services have already taken place, but a series of benefit shows are in the initial stages of planning and a memorial scholarship fund has been set up in Johnson’s name to benefit needy students. Contributions of any amount can be addressed to:

Jon E. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund
c/o Ocean National Bank
122 West St., Keene, NH 03431
ATTN: Rebecca

Additionally, a discussion in remembrance of Johnson is ongoing on thenoiseboard.com.
